Describes the successful therapeutic application of operant conditioning techniques in a population of mental retardates. Shows how, through these techniques, the patient's environment is manipulated so that he is made aware that his behavior has an effect on his environment. Explains that the patient can subsequently develop (through implementation of specific behavior-reinforcement techniques' new and improved patterns of behavior.
