transports take some of the military vehicles to their destination but mostly they are created securely packed and well nailed up for shipment by land and sea to the directors of supply for the armies of the empire [Music] some are destined for long Journeys the crated trucks leave the shipping room of this busy Factory and train load after train load one by one the crates are slung into the hold of a merchantment the Convoy of precious War material slips out to sea [Music] how the men of the Navy risk their lives to keep the sea lanes open but not a single truck or tractor leaves for service until it has been put to rigorous tests [Music] they are exposed to the worst natural conditions to be found four-wheel drive takes Traction in sand or snow over Helix and ditches and up almost unbelievable grades but trucks must stand the gap someday in a saner world The Men Who build the army trucks will turn their skill again to civilian transport and the cars they build will reflect the courage thoroughness and efficiency they put into the vehicles of War [Music] so let's spread the resources and so efficient the organization of this motor company but the government's call for a wide variety of War materials was promptly met for instance shell fuses which were at first manufactured in modest quantity are now being turned out in a veritable stream [Applause] with its vast plots in the United States this company was able to undertake the building of engines for British planes at Allison Motors a wonderful liquid-cooled engine of 1200 horsepower perfected over a period of years was soon rolling off the lines [Music] moving parts are shined and Polished like a mirror tools bike with Precision down to 110 000 of an inch no better evidence exists to show the cooperation of two great nations in a common emergency then this engine building job [Music] Canadian boys run to their places in cockpit and turret some of them to win Fame and decorations as did Billy Bishop and his comrades in World War One [Music] not content with existing plant capacity this motor car company rapidly expanded its Factory space built modern plants for more vehicles for ammunition and even for machine guns something had to be done to meet the Army's great need for skilled Craftsmen skilled mechanics skilled technicians instructors were detailed to teach motor mechanics to the Armed Forces so that they in turn might become capable instructors to the man of Canada's mechanized units [Music] oh more and more women began to take an interest in war work that's their request for the company's dealers carried out instruction courses result the volunteer auxiliary driver's Corps thousands of young women registered Drive change a tire or adjust the carburetor of ambulance or tractor [Music] the vadc girls in many centers have United with the Canadian women's Transport Service of the Red Cross [Music] the essential nature of the motor industry is through the gain in the transport of material for the Canadian war worker day after day night after night the highways of Canada Rumble with these huge carriers the determination to see it through inspires The Men Who Drive [Music]
