Description: The hero of this satiric film concerning Russia's aristocracy before the Revolution, is a wealthy landowner whose laziness is legendary. In an opening sequence, a parade of visitors attempts to coax the lethargic protagonist to dress and emerge from his womblike lair. The director uses contrasting landscapes of light and dark to mirror Oblomov's life: an innocent, naturalistic aspect, and a forbidding, decadent one. (Does not circulate)
