Description: An excerpt from the 'CALVALCADE OF AMERICA' television program. Recounts how John Paul Jones, attempting a raid on the coast of England, succeeded in burning only one ship and yet so impressed the French that they made a warship available to him, even after they had denied one to Ben Franklin and Charles Lee.
Complete Record: Shows Captain John Paul Jones of the U.S. Navy sailing, with Benjamin Franklin's concurrence, from France in his small sloop Ranger to make a "hit-and-run" raid on the coast of England. Explains that through unavoidable mishaps, Jones' plans for mass destruction result in the burning of only one ship and he returns to Paris convinced his raid has been a failure. Observes Franklin informing Jones that the raid has been successful and that the French government has made a warship available which Jones names the Bonhomme Richard., NOTE: Two (or more) records have been merged together to create this data.
