Description: A psychopath preacher, Harry Powell, obtains money for the Lord's work by marrying and murdering rich widows. The children of his last victim find refuge with Rachel who organizes Powell's eventual capture. The film is reminiscent of German expressionism and the work of D.W. Griffith in its atmospheric photography and complex allegory of good and evil. This was the only film Laughton directed on his own and the last written by James Agee. (Does not circulate)
