Description: A seemingly infinite flow of faces glides slowly past, leading the viewer to speculate who and where these people are. In one continuous shot, [Lawder] films the faces of a 5:00 p.m. crowd descending via the PanAm Building escalators. In old-fashioned black and white, these faces stare into the empty space, in the 5:00 p.m. tiredness and mechanical personality, like faces from the grave.
