Introduces the special needs resulting from the physical deformation of one of many Thalidomide babies who, as of 1970 was 14 years old, and the problems resulting from those needs. Focuses on the mother as she discusses caring for a physically deformed child whose intelligence is at least as great as that of her other children. Presents the situation as a social problem since the deformities resulted from use of a government-approved drug and the educational and day-to-day needs exceed the funding capabilities of the family.
