Although the film is basically the history of the railroads in America, it also gives a good view of our country's history from 1830 to the present. The dream of uniting the country, the East's race to lay more miles of track a day than the West Coast crew, and the story of the Irish and Chinese workers who made the railroads possible are all included. Authentic photographs and appropriate music aid to capture the mood of the railroad days.
