Its practitioners would travel to a city or town, film its citizens, and then project the developed footage in a local movie theater for a modest fee. School children and local businesses were favorite subjects. Over the years, MIRC has acquired several examples of the genre documenting South Carolina communities in the 1930s and early 1940s, including a handful of films by the celebrated North Carolina-based filmmaker, H. Lee Waters. Item Title Waters 1 Citation Movies of Local People: Great Falls, 1938. (Waters 1.) Itinerant filmmakers in South Carolina. Moving Image Research Collections.
