Modern Africa: Sport And Entertainment

Explains important cultural aspects of Arica's history and society in terms of organized sports and professional entertainment. Shows how colonists introduced soccer, the Peace Corps introduced basketball, and indigenous sports of boxing and wrestling have become Westernized. Like sports, African entertainment is seen as a blend of tradition and innovation. Musical pieces by Miriam Makeba and the City Five Singers clearly show how much American music has been affected by African and vice versa. We see that wandering minstrel shows still exist alongside more sophisticated dramatic productions., Shows two sides of African entertainment--modern and traditional.
