Description: Using a cathode ray tube encircled by a current-carrying loop of wire, measurements are taken which enable the demonstrator to calculate the mass of the electron. The steps followed in detail are: (1) finding the kinetic energy for each particle, (2) finding the force bending the stream of particles, (3) determining the strength of the magnetic field, (4) calculating the velocity of the electrons, (5) concluding the official value for the electron's mass. The final calculation of the experimental value for the mass is left to the viewers. Demonstration by Eric Rogers, Princeton University. , Describes the determination of the ratio of charge to mass of the electron, by measuring the path of an electron beam in an electric field. Explains that knowledge of the charge on the electron enables its mass to be found.
