Description: Produced by St. Edward’s University and the Learning Resource Center, this 1981 government film promotes MAPP and ESTIMA programs available on the Austin campus. MAPP (Migrant Attrition Prevention Program) and ESTIMA (Educational Studies to Influence Migrant Advancement) were state government programs established to support the academic performance of high school students who were the children of migrant farm workers. Every summer, St. Edward’s welcomed participating students to take general education classes in English, math, and history, as well as special interest classes in music, jewelry making, or theater. Students additionally earned a wage working part-time positions at organizations and agencies in Austin. The film presents an overview of the programs to recruit potential participants, concluding with a summary of what former MAPP/ESTIMA students went on to achieve in their professional careers. St. Edward’s produced two versions of the film: one with English voice-over narration and another with Spanish.
