The film begins by addressing the Apollo 1 tragedy of January 1967, when three astronauts died as a result of a flash fire in the command module during a launch pad test at Kennedy Space Center. Following the accident, engineers made several modifications to the spacecraft. Next, the film details preparations for upcoming unmanned Apollo missions, including the many tests of the Saturn V launch vehicle. Then, we learn about recent lunar investigations, such as Lunar Orbiter 4 and Surveyor 3. Finally, the film joins astronauts as they train at a full-scale mockup of the Orbital Workshop.
