UCLA Animation Workshop Student Film. A hand-drawn animation of a ghostly man flying above the top of a cinema where "Man on Roof" is playing, only to be shot and killed by a police helicopter. An audience laughs at his dying body. The curtain falls, and the audience begins asking to play the animation again, so the film reverses and plays again, only for two critics to speak over the film, debating whether the animation is a political statement.

I wish I had a mic. Yes, let's see it again. SURE AGAIN. JUST THE TIME TO REWIND IT, AND THEN I'LL GET A COUPLE OF critics to help you understand it What's that? Oh, I've seen the review. It's about a man who flies. Another one? Another what? Flying man. They keep making films about flying men. Those animators, dozens of them. Batman, Superman, Mighty Mouse. That's not a man. Oh, shut up. I can find you scores of them. Those guys should see their head shrinkers. You know what Freud wrote about people who dream of flying? No, what did he write? Look it up for yourself. This stuff is nonsense. What does it all mean? I guess it's a public service spot. You know, keeping little children from flying too high and getting sore after. It's political. Stop. You see this guy reading the Wall Street Journal? Go ahead. It's outrageous. I would rather reproach the aesthetic aspect of the whole thing. This is not a cartoon, and it's not a drama, and and it's not comedy, and it's not abstract, and it is not artistic, and it's not realistic, and it's not anything to do with animation, cinema, television, or whatnot. I tell you it's political. That's what it is. See the police helicopter? Cops are pigs, murderers. That stuff should be forbidden. This guy couldn't even afford enough paint to finish his film. I'm not surprised he's a commie. Come, let's go. Well, I'm a bit confused. Of course it's political. It's practical. It's biblical. autobiographical radical pornographical It is comical. critical It's comical. >> It's melodramatic. >> [music] [music]
