Description: This introduction to the centuries-old craft of basket making begins in a shaded clearing of a deep woods near a river where a young woman and three youngsters create handsome baskets from a variety of materials, including leaves, pine needles, rope, and yarn. Each step of making the coil baskets is illustrated and described in fine detail. The completed baskets represent a wide array of sizes, shapes, designs, and textures, yet all are produced with the same simple cording, wrapping, coiling, and stitching technique.
