Description: Produced by Gulf Coast Film for Geophysical Service, Inc., this 1940s 1950 training film reviews safety procedures followed by seismic survey parties. Jim Miller, a newly hired electrical engineer, trains to be an oil exploration observer. After learning about equipment safety features and seismic operations at the Geophysical Service, Inc. offices in Dallas, he joins a party in the field for practical safety training in explosives, drilling, and water surveying. The film was recognized by the National Committee on Films for Safety as the most outstanding occupational accident prevention film of 1950. Geophysicists John Clarence Karcher and Eugene McDermott founded Geophysical Service in 1930. The company was renamed Texas Instruments in 1951. Robert Yarnall Richie, who produced and directed this film, was a freelance industrial photographer and filmmaker who worked with various large corporations in Texas and around the globe.
