Description: In a career that spanned fifty years, Cuban bandleader Frank Machito Grillo embodied Latin jazz, influencing several generations of musicians and contributing to a cultural explosion on the international music scene. This documentary weaves together vintage film clips and recordings, Hollywood production numbers, and rare footage of street performances from 1920's Cuba to contemporary New York. Performances at such hot spots as the Cotton Club highlight the golden era of Latin jazz in the 40's and 50's. Musicians Tito Puente, Dizzy Gillespie, Dexter Gordon and Ray Barreto reminisce and share fond memories of the immortal Machito.
