Description: This animated film without narration is a legend told by the Povungnituk Eskimos. The artist's drawings are transferred to paper, cut out and animated under the camera. The result is Eskimo prints in action. Eskimo dialogue, music and artwork make this film a total cultural transplant. The tale concerns a boy, his mother and city who wait apprehensively inside an igloo as a bear prowls noisily outside. The boy is persuaded by his mother to kill the bear. She and her daughter leave, ostensbily to recover the carcass. The mother does not return; the daughter slips pieces of meat to her brother on furtive visits. He waits in total darkness because he is snowblind. When spring comes, the igloo melts and two loons take pity on the boy. They throw him into the sea and from that moment on, his fortune changes.
