Life And Times Of The Iron Horse.

Uses mostly animation and drawings to show how travel on primitive roads, rivers, and canals gave way to the steam engine that ran on rails. Traces the steam locomotive up to the opening of the first transcontinental railroad in 1869. Discusses the problems and accidents involved before steel was used in making locomotives, rails, and bridges. Employs folk ballads associated with the railroads as background music.
