Description: "Let’s Be Safe At Home" (1948) is a black-and-white kids safety film intended for elementary school-aged children. Anne sits in front of shed and pets dog, skips through line of laundry to house (2:12). Anne in kitchen, observes mom cooking dinner, investigates double broiler while mother busy with KitchenAid (2:29). Clip of hologram Anne distracted while carrying hot pot, pot falls from counter and spills boiling water (3:23). Anne slowly walks with concentration to set pot down, plays with dog on kitchen floor (3:46). Steve and Dick sit on floor of bedroom watch toy train (4:06). Boys rough house, compete for who gets to put plug in socket - clip of hologram boys getting electrocuted from faulty plug before clip of them doing it safely plays (4:45). Sarah and Susan seen playing dress up with dolls on bedroom floor through window, girls find rollerblades and head outside - clip of hologram of the girls’ mother tripping over sprawled out toys (5:49). The girls skate around front yard of family home (7:23). Bobby and George play with toy cowboy pistol; George takes Bobby into house to show off his father’s rifle, POV of staring down barrel of George’s gun - clip of hologram of boys, George shoots Bobby (7:28). foreign let's be safe at home this is a picture about safety safety at home we are going to follow some children as they come home from school and observe whether they remember that to avoid getting hurt they should be alert careful courteous and considerate we won't see anyone really get hurt but if someone should forget to be careful we'll stop him and show what might happen first let's go over to Tony's house [Music] hi Scott what do you want look what I got oh boy I'll be right down Tony's in too much of a hurry so let's stop him right here and remind him of what might happen when he forgets to be alert if he runs down the stairs he might fall like this [Applause] of course this isn't really Tony he's still at the top of the stairs but it could have happened should we ever hurry so fast that we forget to be alert and careful when Tony is alert to what he's doing he remembers to walk down the stairs when he takes his time and walks carefully he won't get hurt we only get hurt when we hurry so fast we can't control what we're doing by being alert we won't get hurt now that we've helped Tony remember not to hurry let's go over to Anne's house it's about time to go in and see what Mother's fixing for dinner ouch and what are you doing just looking will you hand me that large pan please yes be careful now it's hot and is so interested in her dog that she's forgetting to be careful so let's stop her and show what might happen when she's careless with a hot pan she's carrying it doesn't really happen but watch did you ever get hurt because you forgot to be careful when Anne remembers to be careful she watches what she's doing until she's made sure that she's put the hot pan down safely then she can play with her dog banan is careful she won't get hurt now let's see what's happening at Steve's house how about letting me run it be alone it's my train doesn't look like much fun for dick when Steve won't take turns what's the matter it won't work you pull the plug out I'll fix it they don't know how to fix it oh yeah let's stop this selfish argument and show what might happen when the boys forget to be courteous electric plugs are usually safe but they were never made for this kind of treatment you broke it all right it'll work better be careful uh don't we usually forget about being safe when we're selfish of course the plug wasn't really broken now let's see what happens when Steve and Dick remember to be courteous they take turns you want to take a turn thanks courteous people seldom get hurt but selfish people often do now let's go over to Sarah's house hey let's go out and skate all right let's go in their hurry to go outside Sarah and Susan are forgetting to be considerate let's stop them here and show what might happen if they leave all those toys on the floor should we ever take the chance of causing somebody to get hurt just because we were inconsiderate it really doesn't take much time to make things safe by being considerate when the girls remember to put their toys away the floor is clear and safe and no one is likely to get hurt now that Sarah and Susan have helped make their home safe let's go over to George's house Bobby is showing George's new toy Cowboy pistol and George is envious because he doesn't have one so George is trying to think of some way he can show up Bobby George knows he's doing wrong but he's being a show-off and show-offs usually forget to be careful or considerate like playing with their father's guns when they know they shouldn't take them up this is dangerous so let's stop George and change the real boys into make-billy boys so we can show what might happen oh it isn't loaded doesn't showing off frequently lead to someone getting hurt of course George didn't really shoot Bobby when we help him remember that showing off is dangerous he puts the gun away let's hope that George always remembers that no home is safe when children play with real guns let's all remember to be safe at home being saved means being alert taking our time and making sure we never hurry too fast if we're alert we can look out for danger and avoid getting hurt being safe also means being careful doing only one thing at a time and thinking about what we're doing especially if we're handling things which might cause accidents if we're not careful being safe at home means being courteous when we're selfish we forget to be safe but by taking turns and sharing with our friends we can avoid selfish arguments which might lead to harm being safe means being considerate when we're considerate of others we'll pick up our toys making sure we leave nothing out of place which might cause an accident and being safe at home means remembering that showing off can be dangerous especially if it leads us to taking foolish chances like playing with real guns when we get home from school today let's all remember to be alert careful courteous and considerate then we will be safe at home
