Left Brain, Right Brain

The main seat of language processing, abstract thought and other analytical functions occur in the brain's dominant left hemisphere, in most people. Spatial concepts, visual skills, and musical ability occur in the right side of the brain. (Nature of Things series), Dr. Norman Geschwind of the Harvard Medical School introduces this film on the recent breakthroughs in brain research. The processes and characteristics of the right and left hemispheres of the brain are explored. Pioneers like Dr. Doreen Kimura demonstrate geography of brain functions. Viewers observe the dissection of a brain as well as the external structure and internal impressions of skulls from earliest primates through contemporary Homo sapiens.
