Leather jackets (Tipulidae)

Description: The life cycle of the crane fly or “daddy-long-legs” the larvae of which, called Leather Jackets, feed just below the surface of the soil destroying the roots and underground portions of the plants. Stages shown include the action of the larvae in the soil; the pupation stage; emergence of the adult crane fly; reproduction of species; laying of eggs; finally, hatching of the young Leather Jackets.
