Description: Documents the economic and educational plight of the Negro tenant farmers in the southern United States. Shows that in spite of hard work in the fields, the tenant farmer, who earns on the average less than $1,000 a year, can provide his family with only the most meager existence. Demonstrates that he is constantly in debt to the white land-owner, his children cannot escape because the schools for them are hopelessly inadequate, and that the Negro tenant farmer's only hope is the recently obtained right to vote.
