Laurel and Hardy: "Movie Comedians See the Big City" (New York, 8/20/1932)

[Music playing]. [Narrator] Two little boys from the California wilds are having the times of their lives seeing the sights of the big city. They're Laurel and Hardy, the famous laugh-makers of the films getting a crick-in-the-neck giving the main stem the once-over. Broadway don't often see a "see-going" act plus a couple of movie stars and the traffic cops are getting a headache. But these babies should worry about cops whistles or red lights. [Traffic noise, police whistles]. [Person in crowd] "Hey...hey." [Person in crowd] "Hey, hey, what's going on over there? What are you doing?" [Traffic noise, crowds yelling]. [Policeman] What's the idea of passing that light up there? [Driver] [Unintelligible]. [Policeman] If it was red I wouldn't blow the whistle for you stop? [Policeman] Clear the sidewalk [Hardy] You see, I rented this cab. [Policeman] Just a minute, sit in your cab there. [Hardy] If you would just pardon me a second? [Policeman] Now go ahead, your not drivin'. [Policeman] Here's the driver. I want to speak to him. [Hardy] Well, I don't think the driver can talk. [Hardy] In fact, I don't think he can see. [Hardy chuckles] [Policeman] I don't think he can see, myself. [Hardy] Yeah sure, you're right about that. [Policeman] He passed that light. [Hardy] What do you intend to do about it? [Policeman] I intend to give him a ticket. [Laurel] I thought you wanted an autograph of me. [Hardy] Just a moment, I will take care of that autograph. [Hardy] Now you see officer we are strangers in the city. [Hardy] I didn't think that thing would cost so much. [?] [chuckles] [Policeman] Now, I think the best thing that you can do is to get in there and sit in your cab. [Hardy] Oh, I see. [Policeman] Now if you don't I'm gonna lock the both of you's up for interfering with an officer. [Laurel whimpers] [Policeman] Now, what's your name? [Driver] The name is [?]. [Policeman] What's your last name? [Hardy] Hardy. [Hardy] Oh, you weren't speaking to me I see. This is my friend Mr. Laurel over in the back seat. [Hardy] Just a moment if you... [Policeman] Here's a ticket for crossing the light. [Hardy] Oh, alright. I'll take it. Thank you very much. Here's your... He'll take care of it, my friend. He takes care of the business. Goodbye.
