The social protest movement is traced beginning with the Sons of Liberty and continuing through the westward movement, the industrial revolution, the organization of labor, and the winning of organized labor's legal rights under the Wagner Act. Contributions of labor to community and international charities are cited. Narrator Melvyn Douglas interviews George Meany, president of AFL-CIO, in the concluding sequence and Meany cites some of the various social problems of importance to Americans today.
