Summary: Cecilia Pedroza reports from the Job Education and Training (JET) Center, which has provided job development and employment opportunities to the local Black community since 1968. She interviews two representatives from the Center who are proud to announce an expansion of assistance with financial and food security services for the community, including cashing checks and processing utility payments. The Center will be one of the first non-profit organizations in Southern California to offer such services thanks to efforts from the federal government, the county and their sponsor, Security Pacific National Bank. Due to the limited number of community entities providing such services, this expansion should significantly improve access to vital resources for those in need. Clip includes silent footage of the interior and exterior of the JET Center, including signs and people at service windows.

the federal government and the county the Department of Agriculture and supervisor Kenny 's office made this effort possible and this is a continuation of what is known as the Jet Center which provides job train for hardcore employees they're now going to provide food stamps and later on welfare recipients will be able to cash their checks here how employment opportunities yes the uh whole Center is designed around job development and seeking job but for the hardcore only why is the opening of this facility important to the your community well I think it represents a first in the efforts of the community work together with a government agency and the county has made it possible now for a community- based group to to uh provide food stamps for the recipients who use them how many people will be affected by the opening of this facility Well I think hundreds of people in this area would be serviced by this facility did the state cooperate with Community leaders to provide Mr Dorian why is the opening of this Center important to your community well for the first uh reason the Jet Center has established a precedent in Southern California by being one of the first nonprofit organizations to be authorized by the Department of Agriculture and LA County to uh be uh agencies for the federal food stamp organization uh until this uh time only Credit Unions uh Banks and uh several Savings and Loans were authorized to uh take part in in this program so we will be uh unique in being the first private nonprofit uh Citizen Community effort how does the program operate well we're authorized and sponsored by the uh County uh with aided by the Security Pacific National Bank who are sponsored at this time to sell food stamps for the community which encompasses an area about 12 square mil 12 mil in radius area our the next food stamp agency is about 3 miles away from here which is a bank we are open from 9: to 4: and possibly later half day Saturdays where the bank may be open from uh so we say 10 to three uh we have Direct Services for food stamps with additional abilities for check cash and services uh Utility payments and uh most important we will be able within uh 15 days to cash County Warrants which many organizations including Banks refuse to do nowadays are you also providing information on job opportunities well the Jet Center has always done that and we've been established since 1968 to do this and several job placements for the disadvantage for executive placements in uh various types of research done by the center how many people will be affected by this program I'd say about usually 60 to 70,000 people in this scen area okay e
