KNTV Channel 11 News Reels September 16, 1979

Description: Original camera footage edited for broadcast for KNTV San Jose Channel 11 news on August 17, 1966. The broadcast script for this day has not survived. Reel 1: Segment 1 (sound): Pilot "Jim" interviewed by reporter in front of small plane, asked how he feels about going up in the plane after being involved in a crash landing [a few days ago] in the same type of plane. Pilot explains that this is a 486 instead of the 487, and the 486 is designed to be able to land on its belly without landing gear in case of emergency. He talks about landing the plane and how it is part of a pilot's job to be trained for this. Segment 2 (silent): Footage of fire engines on airport field driving to meet a plane landing on its belly without landing gear. One of the firefighters is J. Taylor. Shots of the plane, pilot [same pilot as in Segment 1], passengers, plane being towed by a car. Reel 2 (sound): Reporter lying in a hospital bed, reading a Playboy magazine. Cut to reporter with microphone, in bed, reporting that he sprained his back and ended up in hospital, and the current nursing strike has been made more meaningful. He proceeds to interview other patients about the nurses and whether they've had good experiences, and how much nurses are worth. Reel 3 (sound): Man in suit explaining interest rates and investment. Reel 4: Segment 1 (silent): Extended shots of stock market electronic board, with multiple close-ups of different markets/futures. Segment 2 (sound): Man in suit seen in Reel 3 explaining that the stock market is telling him things aren't going to be rosy. It has a tendency to correct on the upside, but also support on the downside. Reporter asks him how similar the market is today to the 1929 market.
