This recording contains language, specifically the word “Midget”, which, in the view of Little People of America is offensive and inappropriate. The word “midget” was never coined as the official term to identify people with dwarfism, but was created as a label used to refer to people of short stature who were on public display for curiosity and sport. Today, the word “midget” is considered a derogatory slur. The dwarfism community has voiced that they prefer to be referred to as dwarfs, little people, people of short stature or having dwarfism, or simply, and most preferably, by their given name. This film was made in 1972, before Little people of America called for abolishment of word “midget” in 2015. It is the view of Little People of America that this film recording has historical significance to the organization despite the use of the word “Midget”. This film consists of several brief stories that show Little People at work, engaged in community activties, enjoying a range of leisure endeavors. A Past President of the organization and his wife show how they modified the controls on their small airplane so they could fly for business and leisure purposes. Billy Barty, the first President of LPA is shown hosting a children's televison program in Los Angeles. Each segment of the film is meant to show that Little People can and do contribute to the economy and support local communities.
