KNTV Channel 11 News Reels October 25, 1979

Description: Original camera footage edited for broadcast for KNTV San Jose Channel 11 news. Includes national, local, and sports coverage. The broadcast script for this date has not survived. Reel 1: Segment 1 (sound): Older man in suit and bow tie opines that the slow delivery of the election results count was due to an inferior card being introduced to the computers. The material the card was made of was easily bent, the edges frayed, and it threw off the alignment as voters punched the cards. Segment 2 (sound): A man speaks about the voting machines being "affected by some sort of nervous condition" in Santa Cruz, Monterey, and Salinas Counties that produced extra votes. Segment 3 (silent): Shot of railroad on tracks; policeman stopping an automobile; smoke from a wildfire; possibly railroad fire in field. Fire crews and fire engines arriving on the scene. Segment 4 (sound): Young draft objector in suit being interviewed by reporter. "I didn't register because I'm a Christian pacifist and I take it very seriously, and in my eyes, I see the Selective Service as an evil institution, participating in the kind of immorality that I can't be a part of." He says he expected that there would be charges against him, he's not surprised, but it grieves him that the legal system in this country can infringe on someone's morality and their Christian expression. While he's not happy at the prospect of being imprisoned, he believes that Christians have to suffer for their beliefs, and he is at peace about his decision. Reel 2 (sound): Winning candidate in Santa Clara County primary race [District Attorney?] says he was optimistic about winning, but was surprised at the majority. He says he never gave the [County Assessor's] department a clean bill of health, but he investigated the matter. From the point of view of the County Counsel, they were trying to recover taxes lost as a result of false affidavits filed by corporations. Says if the [current] Attorney General wants to get involved in the Assessor's race he is welcome to, but refers to a political scandal involving a grand jury in San Francisco that may make the AG vulnerable. 6/8/66 A-D 495; 6/8/66 E 495; 6/8/66 A-D 495; 6/8/66 E 495
