Segment 1 (silent): Greyhound bus station sign for Tracy / Stockton / Sacramento shots of parked buses, baggage holding room, people in waiting room. Script reads, "Greyhound Strike. 13,000 commuters who ordinarily ride the bus will be taking to the freeways come morning as a result of the strike by 5000 drivers and clerks against Greyhound Bus Lines. Throughout the Western states, terminals were idled as drivers and clerks walked out after ten hours of marathon negotiations failed to settle the dispute before the deadline. Thousands of Bay Area residents were stranded at Reno and Lake Tahoe gambling resorts. The chartered buses taking gamblers to those points also were affected. At the San Jose terminal, only Peerless Stages was operating but tickets had to be purchased from the bus driver...ticket clerks in the terminal were involved in the walkout. The contract dispute is largely over demands that pensions be improved, but other issues, including wage increases, remain unresolved." Segment 2 (silent): Crowd seated outdoors at a ceremony in front of tall hospital building man giving speech from stage. Story reads, "A group of more than 400 persons gathered today for dedication ceremonies honoring the new 227-bed Good Samaritan Hospital in the west valley. The afternoon service -- held in a grassy area near the hospital parking lot -- followed a 24-hour prayer vigil marking the completion of the hospital inter-faith chapel. Good Samaritan Hospital has been in operation for more than 8 months, but dedication was forestalled until the chapel was placed in service. The entire complex was built at a cost of more than six million dollars. It is designed as a community service hospital. Honored speaker today was Bishop Donald Tippett of the Methodist Church. The eight-story structure has been designed to accept three additional floors as the need arises." Segment 3 (silent): Dog washing fundraiser. Lots of shots of dogs being shampooed and washed with garden hoses. Script reads, "When automatic car washing was introduced about 15 years ago it became quite the vogue to 'take the car down and run it through.' Now there's a new approach to an old problem that's similar to the dirty automobile. It's called the dirty dog. Youths at Saratoga's St. Andrew's Episcopal Church have a solution though, no pun intended...it is the 'dog wash.' About 40 area residents appeared with their canine charges this afternoon, for the first annual event. Prices for the standard hosing down and drying off ranged from a dollar to $2.50, depending upon the size of the dog. Proceeds went to Guide Dogs for the Blind, Inc. of San Rafael. For the dog washers and owners it was an afternoon of fun and socializing. But for poor old Fido it was plain drudgery. And, as usual, a few doggie tempers became strained. The dog washers -- none of them experts at the art -- did have one condition in their favor. No cats showed up." Segment 4 (silent): Group of kids in life jackets, man checking the life jackets are secure kids climb aboard boat named "Albatross" kids climbing the rigging group of kids waving to the camera from the deck. Story reads, "Santa Cruz. Saturday. Normally most families who want to get from here to Minnesota would either drive, take the train, or fly there. But one family in Santa Cruz this weekend had other ideas. They planned to sail back! Dr. and Mrs. Albert Nisswandt and their seven children were on the dockside at the Santa Cruz marina this weekend checking last minute details. The Nisswandt's seven offspring, ranging in age from 2 to 11, were checked out with their life jackets by their father before swarming aboard the 52-foot sailing vessel which will be their home for the next three months. Dr. Nisswandt bought the 'Albatross' in Santa Cruz and figured the best way for him to get it back home to Duluth, Minnesota, was to sail it back, complete with his entire family as a crew. They plan to sail down the coast, through the Panama Canal, up the East Coast and then through the St. Lawrence Seaway right to their back door almost.
