The man acquired a gun at a pawnshop, then took the owner hostage and attempted to flee in a commandeered vehicle. Shots of the California Loan Office where the incident began, crowds gathered outside, vehicle with flat tire, police officers interviewing witnesses, exterior of the Garden City Hofbrau restaurant with neon sign flashing, and the Joe's cocktail bar neon sign above the California Loan Office. Segment 2 (silent): Raymond Franklin Hall of Farmington, Missouri, in custody at Santa Clara Police Department, accused of kidnapping a San Francisco man Robert Michael Doherty, locking him the trunk of a car, and driving to an orchard near Saratoga Creek. Segment 3 (silent): Aerial footage of a plane crash in a field. Federal Aviation investigators examining wreckage of plane crashed in Mount Hamilton range. Pilot, Navy Lieutenant Jack R. Kerr of Mountain View, was found dead in the wreckage. Segment 4 (sound): Chief of Naval Operations, Admiral David L. McDonald is asked about recent statements that aircraft carriers will be obsolete in five years. He says that in 20 years they will be just as useful as they are now, if not more so. As time goes by and other countries are less inclined to provide the U.S. with base rights and overflight rights, having our own "soil" moving at sea is valuable and they can't all be under the sea. Reel 2: Segment 1: Los Gatos residents gather to watch fence being constructed around hundred-foot high redwood tree at corner of Saratoga and Monterey Avenues, next to a motel. Final boards nailed in place by Joseph Bellinger, President of Los Gatos Homeowners Association, and Emmett Solomon, President of the Los Gatos branch of the Crocker Citizens Bank. A woman films the scene with a small portable home movie camera. Segment 2: Traffic at Bayfront near sign for Route 82.
