There is a sign that says "Midgets of America" meeting at the Riverside Hotel in Reno Nevada. At the time of the meeting shown here, they entered into a discussion about the use of the word "Midget" in reference to any organization that included dwarfs and short statured persons. On April 4, 1957, the founders announced that" Little People of America" was organized to meet the needs of persons with short stature. The presence of sensitive or offensive material in this film about the founding of Little People of America, Inc. (LPA) is not endorsed or approved by LPA . LPA recognizes and regrets the culturally sensitive nature of this material. However, as indicated by the Society of American Archivists and the American Library Association, removing offensive material is, de facto, an alteration of the archival record and would constitute willfully destroying records to conceal facts or distort evidence. As such, the material in the archive remains as a historical record. LPA is committed to transparency, reconciliation, and education. In 2015 Little People of America, Inc. (LPA) issued a statement calling for abolishing the word "Midget" as it is considered a derogatory slur. This film captures part of the events and activities that were held in connection with the 1957 Founding of LPA, April 3-4, in Reno Nevada. The meeting participants are shown at the front entrance of the Rivershide Hotel preparing to march in a parade, two blocks in length, accompanied by a local High School Band.
