Reel 1: Segment 1 [silent]. Santa Clara County Supervisors Meeting. Segment 2 [sound]. Woman seated at desk, wearing work clothing. She is explaining the procedure for women who are seeking advice at the family planning clinic. "If they ask for the family planning clinic, they are put in touch with a clerk assigned to this clinic. She asks a few routine questions for determining whether or not a woman needs further information on the subject of family planning, and then a nurse almost always makes a visit to the home and shows her - and demonstrates to her the various methods which are available for spacing of children." Reporter asks, "And now what happens when they get to the clinic? What information is relayed there?" "There are nurses available at the clinic in order to discuss any questions which the woman might have after having received her information at home. This kit [woman holds up a clear plastic container with multiple bottles and other items in it] not only to be brought into the home but also available at the clinic. The nurse can demonstrate to her the various methods of family planning. In addition to that, at the clinic the woman receives a physical examination of her pelvic organs, a smear is taken -- a test is taken for cancer of the cervix -- and she is then given the information of the type of contraception which is best for her in her own mind, and also in the mind of the physician." Segment 3 [silent]. Military police at Fort Ord are seen stopping cars in a parking lot. they appear to be inspecting some of them. one of the MPs puts a Fort Ord sticker with a number on it on the bumper of a car. Appears to be parking permits or inspection stickers for Fort Ord. Reel 2: Segment 1 [silent]. Santa Clara County Supervisors hearing on aviation. Two men are seen in the audience leafing through the County of Santa Clara General Aviation Plan. Segment 2 [sound]. Group of young people on a rocky outcrop above a dry hill dotted with oak trees are learning how to belay down the hill. A man with a beard says to camera, "Well, it isn't just mountaineering. We're trying to help kids understand what a great wonderful world it is. Mountaineering is only a part of it. There's a whole separate curriculum of relating plants and animals, and then man and his environment, and how this thing goes together." More footage of one boy in shorts belaying as the other kids cheer him on. Reel 3: Segment 1 [silent]. San Jose City Council meeting. The new councilperson or mayor is sworn in. Segment 2 [silent]. Shot of the sign for Superior Court Courtroom No. 12 Hon. Stanley R. Evans presiding. Men file into the courtroom. Other people mill around outside the courtroom. The doors to the courtroom close. Segment 3 [sound]. [San Jose Bees?] baseball coach wearing an "S" baseball cap, with lantern jaw, and one cheek full of chewing tobacco, talks about his players. "Well, we've got a boy named Schneider from the University of Minnesota that's been playing shortstop lately, and he's trying to play his way into shape more or less. And we've got another boy named Jack McCall from Clemson University who has been handling himself at second very well for never having played 2nd base. He's also a shortstop. In fact I have an all scholastic infield I think. I have Don Anderson, who's a Long Beach State fella. We have McCall who's from Clemson, and Schneider who's from Minnesota, and McStagnan [?], who's from Fresno State. I might be able to learn modern math before I'm all through.." Segment 4 [sound]. Monterey reporter Dennis Rowedder interviews a young boy who appears to have flown by himself from Japan to California without a ticket. "Why did you suddenly decide to come over to the United States?" "I don't know, just took a little plane ride." "Why did you want to take a little plane ride?" [Boy shrugs.] "Do you like planes?" "Yes." "How long did it take you to fly over?" "About 5 hours." "What did you do during the trip?" "I slept." "Did you read any magazines?" "Yes." "Speak to the stewardess?" "Yes." "What'd she say to you? She didn't ask for your medical card or your ticket or anything?" "No." A woman is then interviewed who is related to the boy and says that he was very glad to see her and her mother, and they'll take care of him until she knows her brother's plans for staying or returning from Japan. Reel 4: Segment 1 [silent]. San Jose City Council meeting in small chambers. Segment 2 [sound]. Man speaking to camera. "What we really want to know is what our potential is in the next two decades for office space, and what kind of office space, for transient services, hotels and motels, the variety of housing that will be required for the downtown and in what quantities, retail space, what kind of retail space and what other...this we really need to know to physically plan the area..." Segment 3 [sound]. Close-up of sign hung on wall with number of State fires and rural fires for this year and last year. Member of state fire personnel points to a large map on the wall with fires indicated by dots. "The grass and brush has dried out unusually early -- 4-6 weeks earlier -- and the weather now would be the same as what you would normally have in August or September. At the present time we are working four separate fires. We have one in the Byron area, one behind Mt. Hamilton, one in the Valero area near Almaden Road, and also one in the Valocitos area. All four are now under control. however, we still have crews on them.." Segment 4 [silent]. Troops at Ford Ord being addressed by a commander. A soldier walks over with a folded flag and hands it to the commander. Cut to women in uniform walking past the sign for U.S. Army Headquarters Reception Station. All are wearing leis. Cut to women putting leis on the soldiers. each lei has a tag that reads, "Aloha from ___ ___ Club."
