Description: Original camera footage edited for broadcast for KNTV San Jose Channel 11 news on October 26, 1966. The broadcast script for this date has not survived. Reel 1: Segment 1 (color, silent): Speedboats getting ready for a race at Lake Tahoe; shots of crews working on boards, an interview with a man in a red shirt, motor being hoisted out of a boat, mid-century house on the lake, speedboat powering across the lake. Segment 2 (sound): Interview with Santa Clara University football coach Pat Malley about the condition of their team. Coach says he thinks they're in good condition both physically and mentally; they have a number of injuries, but you just can't go through a season without injuries. Segment 3 (silent + sound): Tables set up outside college buildings with students milling around. Close-ups of the Peace Corps. recruitment table and literature. Several students are carrying pickets that read, "Napalm Burns." Followed by interview with African-American man about Peace Corps recruitment, who is asked a question off-camera and answers, "I would think that Students for a Democratic Society would make very good volunteers. We don't always agree with the kind of things they are trying to communicate, but those SDS people that I have known that have gone to Africa, and gotten off to African and gotten so involved with the problems of education and nutrition and childcare that they haven't had time to think about big issues like Vietnam and that kind of thing.." Reel 2: Segment 1 (silent): An African-American man in suit having a genial conversation with several other men just outside the door to Criminal Courtroom No. 1, Judge Joseph P. Kelly presiding. Segment 2 (sound): Interview with man about an alien abduction. The reporter asks him why he thinks he was chosen. "Probably because I happened to be there. I was chosen by circumstances rather than by design." Reporter: "What was the inside of the flying saucer like?" "I saw very little...it was a compartment about 7 by 9 feet. Very simple. It contained seating devices -- you would call them chairs -- and a device which produced light at the rear wall of the compartment." The reporter notes that an expert recently stated that anyone claiming to have been in a flying saucer should seek psychiatric help. What does the interviewee think of that? He responds that the expert should seek some help himself because it's a very arrogant statement to make, and to pretend to have ultimate knowledge about all life. The reporter then says that the trip from White Sands to New York and back again in a half hour certainly beats all current speed records - does this pose a threat to commercial airlines? The man answers no, and then corrects the reporter to say that astronauts travel just as fast or faster. Reel 3 (silent + sound): Robert Finch, running for Lt. Governor, arrives on a plane at an airport, greeted by a crowd, including women wearing large hats and "Finch" sashes. Press conference with Finch and another man, possibly his campaign manager. Sound clip of Finch responding to what was likely a question about Brown's recent campaigning with Robert and Joan Kennedy. Finch says he doesn't think the increased visibility of Brown is going to affect anybody's opinion in the last few days of the campaign. The man next to him adds that Brown has had eight years, it's not like he's unfamiliar face, and it's not a popularity contest. Bringing in exciting people from other places has no bearing on the issues. Followed by another clip of Finch supporters, then back to a sound clip of the campaign manager commenting on President Johnson's safety and a recent incident that he says put Johnson in undue danger.
