Reel 1: Segment 1 (silent): Extended footage of the National Championship Air Races at Stead Air Force Base near Reno, Nevada. Segment 2 (sound): Interview with skier Joe Marillac, head instructor at Squaw Valley resort, in attendance at the San Jose Light Opera Association's Sport-o-Rama Fashion Show in Saratoga. Reporter Dan McGaffin asks him when ski season is going to open at Squaw, and also quizzes him on this year's ski styles. Reel 2: Segment 1 (sound): Interview with evangelist John Haggai who has just returned from a weeklong preaching tour of Vietnam. Haggai details the activities of U.S. servicemen that he's been impressed with, how they are helping the local population improve their living conditions. He says that the Vietnamese people are very glad that the U.S. is there, they are "thrilled" with us, and they want to take on more of the burden. He is asked whether the servicemen support the war effort, and he says he hasn't met one man who doesn't think that we should stay and finish the job. Reel 3: Segment 2 (sound): VISTA Field Representative George Lord is interviewed about what the Volunteers in Service to America recruits do during their one year tour of duty to help fight poverty in the U.S. Reel 4: Segment 3 (silent): Shots of a man looking down over a hillside from a large house with a pool. People mingling with wine glasses; looking at art on display. Script reads, "Rodolphe Mirassou's family has been farming this area for more than 100 years. Yesterday, on a hilltop above Blossom Hill Road overlooking San Jose, Mirassou planted rather unusual type of crop...what Mirassou planted on his west valley hilltop was art, or rather, an art farm. Built in the style of Old Mexico, he has put together art studios, work rooms, conference rooms, and even a swimming pool...Mirassou has invited such artists as Kent Childs, the sculptor examining his own work here with Mirassou, to do their creating on his hilltop. Tony Christala will be artist in residence. The art farm opened with a champagne reception yesterday." Segment 1 (sound): Nancy Reagan interviewed about labor union opposition to her husband Ronald Reagan. Script reads, "Mrs. Ronald Reagan brought her husband's campaign for governor to Los Gatos today. The wife of the Republican gubernatorial hopeful addressed about 100 women at the Los Gatos Lodge and then answered questions, including these for Channel 11 News..." Mrs. Reagan is asked why she has said that labor union leaders are against her husband, but the rank and file are okay. She says that you need only look at the booklets that labor leaders are putting out that are full of lies about her husband. But the rank and file are decent, patriotic men. She is asked why the leaders are against Reagan. She says she doesn't know, you'd have to ask them, but her husband can't be put in anyone's pocket. She's then asked about a new governor's mansion - has she thought about this? She says she hasn't even seen the current governor's home, and it would be presumptuous for her to be thinking about that. Ask her again in November. Reel 5 (silent): Exterior of Santa Clara Municipal Court building sign. Followed by shots of three defendants entering a courtroom. Camera stays on them while they are seated; one of them covers his face. Script reads, "Truck driver John Nortenson of Fremont was escorted into Santa Clara Municipal Court this afternoon. He is accused of the tire iron slaying of his sister in law, Frances Setak, Saturday morning...three other accused murderers made an appearance in Superior Court this morning. They are Joseph Tatton and Gary Rice, accused of of the February robbery-killing of an armored car guard; and Earl Sears, once convicted child killer..." Segment 2 (sound): Santa Clara City Councilman William Kiely accuses the city of Santa Clara of using taxpayer money to influence voters in the November election by forcing city employees to campaign in favor of a yes vote on a proposed sports arena. in the interview he suggests that at least 5,000 dollars are being spent, city employees don't like it, especially the fire department, who say it takes them away from their own duties and they don't like the project to begin with. Segment 2 (sound): Interview with president of the Peninsula Manufacturers Association, Marion Sellers, about retraining the "unemployable," "marginal workers" who lack either the training to hold a job, or are unprepared to find a job. He says there are many approaches to training, and private industry is one of the avenues to provide this training. Segment 1 (silent): Shots of an IBM computer system and different screens, as several men examine it, and one woman explains something to them. Script reads, "Two years ago the Ravenswood City school district in East Palo Alto and Stanford University joined hands with the federal government to develop a computer-assisted instruction laboratory at one of the district's schools. The laboratory is almost completed, and today it took on additional significance...With the state general election slightly more than a month away, Assemblyman Al Alquist's forces decided he should take a tour of the plant at Brentwood School.
