Description: Original camera footage edited for broadcast for KNTV San Jose Channel 11 news. Includes national, local, and sports coverage. The broadcast script for this date has not survived. Reel 1: Segment 1 (sound): Continuation of Dennis Rowedder's interview from June 26th with Donna Danzer, who won the Miss California pageant, but gave up her throne after winning. She continues explaining why she chose to give up the crown to the runner-up. Segment 2 (sound, color): Man walking into giant structure while camera pans around it and through it. A voice-over explains that this is an 18-foot, accurate model of a fruit fly gene, magnified more than a 1/2 million times. It is part of the Upjohn Company's technical exhibit at the 1966 meeting of the American Medical Association in Chicago, titled "Genes in Action," designed to illustrate findings on how genes go about blueprinting a cellular structure of all living things. The voice-over continues explaining how genes work as the camera focuses in on different aspects of the model. Segment 3 (silent): Very young elementary school children, possibly kindergarteners, taking part on different activities in their classroom accompanied by visiting adults, likely parents. The kids dance, play in kitchen, have story time, pretend to have a meal at a table. Reel 2: Segment 1 (silent + sound): First portion is extended shots of a boat parked in a driveway, an RV parked behind a fence, and a camper parked in front of a garage. KNTV reporter Bob Marsden then reports from in front of San Jose City Hall on the ordinance to be voted on at tonight's council meeting that would ban parking boats and trailers in front yards of residences, with the exception of camper-type vehicles. The ordinance came as the result of complaints by private citizens who thought these vehicles were unsightly; the City Council asked City Counsel to draft an ordinance, which the Planning Commission approved, and is now going to vote at City Council. Segment 2 (sound): San Jose City Council member Joseph Pace speaks about a proposed tax suggestion. Says the public should get involved -- the City has a tax issue, the County has a tax issue, and now is not the time to make readjustments in taxes. Reel 3: Segment 1 (silent): Santa Clara County Supervisors meeting. Segment 2 (silent): Very brief footage of demolition of a Victorian-style building, possibly in San Jose. Segment 3 (color, silent): Aerial footage of East Bay hills, a work trailer with sign "Laser Application Research Trailer," men working on laser equipment. Segment 4 (silent): Entrance to Greyhound Bus Station in downtown San Jose; also visible are signs for Post House Restaurant and The Caravan bar or club. Shot of people getting on a bus, signs reading, "Greyhound Rolls Again," thanking customers for their patience during the disruption. Shots of man at ticket counter, waiting room full of people, Greyhound bus rolling in and people disembarking, exterior door to Depot and people go in and out. [After agreement reached with striking mechanics] Reel 4: Segment 1 (sound): An African-American man with a thin mustache speaking about black power and voting rights. "Black power is a concentration, politically, of the Negroes' voting power to change the pattern that has existed up to this point. So long all these number of years it has been white power and this is maintained because the Negro has not been able to vote. They said, 'No, you can't vote,' and they would shoot to keep you from voting, and there was no voting. There was no voting power among the masses of the Black people. Now, with the changes of legislation, we are able now to get that vote, and [?] concentrate the vote, Black power must change and attack white power. Courts support this because we feel this is the only way that in an area such as Mississippi that these changes can take place." Reporter asks, "Then he's calling for political Black power rather than physical one?" "Absolutely. I don't think that any responsible leader would call for a physical power [?] in a society such as ours. That would be terribly irresponsible. Now, this does not mean that somewhere along the line maybe some violence might come out of this, because of the violence that is done to Negroes, and you cannot expect us to go on and on and on without some changed. Somewhere along the line, some Negro is going to shoot back or fight back. This is just only human nature...." Segment 2 (sound): Man [coach?] explaining a ruling by the NCAA against a local [basketball?] game or tournament that wasn't sanctioned by the NCAA. He mentions Bill Russell. Reel 5 (silent + sound): Meeting inside a conference room at the San Jose Redevelopment Agency. Exterior shot of the building. Afterwards, one of the men in the room speaks to reporter, "They're very well satisfied with the action taken. We think that we've got a good developer and so far he's lived up to all his agreements, and we're sure he'll live up to them in the future."
