U.S. Air Forces fighter pilot Johnny Martin (Richard Crane) is diagnosed with nerve exhaustion at his discharge medical and is prevented from flying for a year. Miles Cary (Charles Russell) is anxious about him flying again and asks why he is not flying. Miles's wife Sally (Faye Marlowe) goes into labor the same day as the Lockheed P-80 Shooting Star test flight, and Johnny takes his place as pilot on the test flight.
