Description: Demonstrates various games in a remedial reading program for elementary age children at the Center for Educational Disabilities at the University of Guelph in an attempt to increase the child's interest in reading and detect and correct his reading problems. Emphasizes the motivational aspect of the game approach, techniques used to discourage guessing, provisions for self-checks, sources or causes of reading disabilities, and methods of evaluating progress. Shows how each skill in the reading process is introduced only after the child has had sufficient background experiences to enable him to attack the new skill with confidence.
