I'm having a ball with this tour. I'm having a great time. And we went down to Washington. Had a chance to stop with my girlfriend down in Washington, D.C. >> Were you there during all of this? Johnny, I was thinking about you because I know you're to it. I watched the monologues, and I knew And what that we were there when the whole Iran-Contra thing was was happening, and it was It's like an Alan Funt bit. It's like It's like Alan Funt is orchestrating this whole thing. Like it's a Candid Camera. We thought it would be funny. >> [laughter] >> We We thought it would be funny if we sent some arms to Iran. Got a Lieutenant Colonel to skim the money to send to America. Watch what happens. You won't believe [laughter] it. That's funny. Funny idea. >> [applause] >> Fun things [cheering] in the house, you know. That's soap opera. It is. It's It's It's good soap opera. Oh my god. And the funny thing, overseas, the English people don't seem to be very concerned. They say, "So, what's the big deal?" You know, they have their own problems, and they think we make too much out of it, but it's great television. Who's your favorite person on there? Well, watching the news and everything, um, yeah, I was hoping that one day we could do I'd do Koppel, you know, and you would do Reagan cuz I know you do the Reagan. Koppel's very interesting. His theme song is great. That bom bom bom bom. I always thought they should put lyrics to it. You know, I'm Ted Koppel. This is Nightline. Do do do do Koppel. I look like Howdy Doody. If I I I Okay. You [clears throat] play Koppel. Ask me any question. I'm the president. >> Okay. I'm Ted Koppel. This is Nightline. Tonight, President Reagan. Mr. President, did you get the secret documents from Admiral Poindexter, sir? Well, I I I could have gotten the documents. Then again, if Admiral Poindexter says I got them, it's possibly he might have written them or seen them. But if I saw them, I didn't see them. It's >> [laughter] >> quite possible I didn't see them or did see them, but whatever. I mean, do you know what the hell is going [laughter] on here? He did this. He did that. I don't know who did what. Well, it's [applause] good. You know, I had a chance in Washington to go to the White House. And we were down there, and I didn't meet any, you know, admirals on boats or anything like that. That was But I did You know, I do that commercial that beer commercial where I go, "Hey, little one-on-one or what?" Yeah. I do that, right? The basketball commercial with this tall, big basketball guys. So, we're coming out of the White House after like lunch, you know, down there. And And there's a Marine guard. You know, the Reagans like redesigned the Marine customs, so those guys look awesome. And they're real straight, and they don't say anything. Guy opens the door for us, clicks his heels, and says, "A little one-on-one, Mr. Piscopo?" >> [laughter] >> And he didn't smile. I looked back, and the guy's still there like this, you know? Recognition. I was so flattered. What What was going on at the White House? You had some kind of dinner No, what actually happened, Johnny, it was it was so cool. They they roasted Senator Bill Bradley from New Jersey. And they asked me and And And And Hey, Jersey. All right. >> [laughter] >> Make you feel at home. Lunch. >> [laughter] >> Don't do that. You'll hear from them. Somebody once said, "Why do all cousins live in New Jersey?" I don't know. I have a cousin. She's in New Jersey. No, it's great. It's It's my home state, and I love it. It's great. And Senator Bradley, they were roasting him down there, and they asked me to MC it. And I don't know what was I doing there. I don't know. It was so funny. But I I went there a couple days ahead of time to familiarize myself with the Washington thing so I could do some jokes. But you know, all the Democratic presidential candidates are there, see? And I got to bring them up with a little joke, you know? Jesse Jackson's down there, see? And Jesse's like He's preaching. He's He's Jesse's like Jesse's like being Jesse, you know? He's like He's out of soul. I brought him on with a rap, you know? Listen up, people. No fooling around. It's time right now for someone who can really get down. He heads up what he likes to call the Rainbow Coalition. He's a reverend. He's a brother. He's a bad politician.
