Ivy Baldwin of Marsdale, Colorado, has packed plenty of thrills into his 80 years, and he's getting younger every year. Perhaps he stays young by doing impossible things. He's been doing them now for many years. He wants to do this over the Royal Gorge, but the authorities won't let him, and that makes an old trooper just a bit peeved. He's performed dangerous feats for 66 years and has no intentions of Baldwin's fans are legion comprising three generations of Americans who have seen him risk his life on high wires and in early day balloon ascensions. During the SpanishAmerican War, he scouted the Spanish fleet at Santiago, Cuba, and nearly lost his life when his balloon was shot to pieces. During his circus days, he broke about every bone in his body. But they've never kept a good man down. Not Ivy Baldwin. Life at 80 includes wood chopping, mending fences, helping out at county fairs, and church bizars. The king of the balloonists keeps in high wire trim.
