Introduction to jazz

Description: A survey of the development of jazz in the United States from the time of its primnitive African source, through the wistful rhythms of the enslaved negroes of the South to the sophisticated jazz of modern times. The film features Freddy Leadbelly in the work-song “Take this hammer”, Louis Armstrong and his Hot Five, and the Red Hot Peppers in such numbers as “West end blues”, “Shoe shine drag” and “Jelly roll”. Narrated by Frank Wolff.
