Introducing Janet

Peer pressure and self-image are among the adolescent concerns which are humorously and realistically depicted here. Janet is a high school sophomore who is always role-playing. While researching a paper on comedy, she visits Giggles, a teenage comedy club, and meets Tony, an aspiring comic. When he develops laryngitis Janet fills in for him and discovers that she doesn't really like playing roles. Directed by Rebecca Yates and Glen Saltzman., Janet hides her insecurities behind a gregarious and self-deprecating facade. Her friends call her Big J; her mother wants her to lose weight and be more active. When she meets Tony, an aspiring comic, she gains a more positive self-image and a sense of her own unique talents.
, Janet's self-esteem is in bad shape, despite her obvious talents as a writer and observer of the world around her. She is overweight and yet she continues to eat junk food. She is funny and talented, yet she withdraws from friends and social contact. When her high school English teacher assigns a composition starting with "What Is...?, Janet decides to write about what is funny. Her research leads her to Giggles, a night club for aspiring comedians, and sets her on a voyage of discovery about herself and a friendship with a young comedian.
