Description: Short film of poet Eric Barker (1905-1973) walking along the along the trails and shore of Point Lobos, Calif., and reciting poems from his volumes 'Looking for Water' (1964) and 'Directions in the Sun,' (1956). Long, peaceful film segments combining only music and and the beauty of the surroundings suggest the inspiraton of this renowed English-born poet, described as one who lived as a poet should--simply and with nature. Barker was awarded the Shelley Memorial Award of the Poetry Society of America in 1963, and nominated as California's poet laureate in 1965, an honor which he declined. The film was produced by Robert Blaisdell, a filmmaker native to the Monterey peninsula, whose father helped make Point Lobos into a state park.
