Interpreting America to Americans: I'll Tell the World (part 1)

Duration: 12:00

Year Published: 1940

Creator: Splay Commercial Pictures

Complete Record: A narrative introduction by the "President of the Advertising Club" about the serious and valuable role of advertising in American society. This is followed by a propagandist movie designed to illustrate the principles and values of advertising in American society. The apparent fiction film intersperses documentary segments to show benefits of advertising and economic development. Some of the examples are making orange juice from oranges; beauty treatments for women; tomato production; and the 'horseless carriage,' demonstrating mass production and its correlate in business: advertising. The film ends with the same narrator closing the circle on the necessity of advertising in business for sound business practices. An ironic twist of cigarette smoke swirls upward from where he glances down to read his speech.
