Description: Animation and a Chicago Symphony Orchestra brass quintet performance of Canzona per Sonare #2 by Giovanni Gabrieli are used to show how the players of horns make music. Illustrations depict how air carries musical sounds to the ear, and an explanation is given of how sound is created as the tube of a horn separates air molecules inside the tube from those outside. Different wind instruments including the French horn, the trombone and the tuba are demonstrated. A brass quintet reveals how sound can be controlled to express musical ideas.
