Description: SCREENER with timecode. NOTE: This film is silent. Description: A two-part, 37- minute film focusing on World War II victory gardens in Sacramento, California. The film was produced by the Sacramento Bee and KFBK radio and directed by Robert Handsaker to document and promote victory gardens during World War II. The first reel shows the garden grown by the Prentiss R. Ferguson family and the meals prepared from their produce. Highlights of the first reel capture footage of community gardens and front yards that have been converted into Victory Gardens. The following reel focuses on the second annual Sacramento Victory Garden Harvest Festival and includes footage of judges critiquing one of the hundreds of gardens entered in the festival contest. Highlights from the second reel also include festival exhibitions and entertainment at the Memorial Auditorium.
