In Dark Places--Remembering the Holocaust

Recreates the horrors of the Holocaust through the use of black and white photographs, film of Hitler shot in 1934, visits to actual concentration camps and, most notably, the vivid testimony of the survivors and their children. Interviews author Susan Sontag, who offers her ideas about the social and historical significance of the extermination of six million Jews and shows how the symbols of the Holocaust have been incorporated into present society. Talks with members of the New Artef Players, who perform a play about the survivors and their views of the Holocaust. Does not recount the chronological history of the Holocaust., Focuses on survivors of the Nazi persecution and explores how they and their children cope today with the memory of the past. Members of the New Artef Players perform their play based on the recollections of survivors.
