Complete Record: Indignant over the Stamp Act, colonial merchants refuse to buy English goods until it is repealed. Through the combined efforts of Benjamin Franklin, as a colonial agent, and the British merchant lobby, the King and Parliament are persuaded to rescind the act. To assert authority the Declaratory Act is passed, reaffirming Parliament's right to legislate for the Colonies.
