Description: Portrays Brown County, Indiana, during the period 1915-1955 using photographer Frank Hohenberger's original photographs and narrative from his journal. Hohenberger lived and worked there at a time when traditional ways of life such as basketmaking, beekeeping, hunting, and farming with horses were still the normal way of life. Over the years, he saw Brown County become a haven for artists and tourists and the "old ways" were seen increasingly as quaint throwbacks rather than the norm. His work records incidents such as a trial for moonshining, an election, and the displacement of families for a new game preserve. Produced with support from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
