It begins with aerial shots of lower Manhattan / New York City and the Hudson (:34). At (:55) a tugboat is shown cruising past the Statue of Liberty across New York Harbor. At (1:11), trans-Atlantic ocean liners including the SS United States and HMS Queen Mary are seen at anchor. At (1:29) a Staten Island Ferry plies the river. At (1:38) an aerial shot of Grant's Tomb and Riverside Drive as well as (1:45) the George Washington double-decked suspension bridge. At (1:57) the Little Red Lighthouse, officially Jeffrey's Hook Light, in Fort Washington Park along the Hudson River. At (2:05) the palisades of rock on the upper river are shown. At (2:36) the United States Military Academy is shown at West Point, along with the chain that famously prevented enemy ships from moving up the river. At (2:49) the Bear Mountain bridge in the Catskill Mountains is shown. At (2:53) the railroad bridge is shown. At (3:04) the Tappan Zee bridge spanning the Hudson River between Tarrytown and Nyack. At (3:14) a discussion of the Dutch names that are still used along the Hudson, dating back to when New York was a Dutch colony.

foreign [Music] feeding into the Atlantic Ocean at the base of New York City the picturesque Hudson River makes its Timeless wave beside the mighty skyscrapers of the largest city in the world the river was discovered by the Dutch explorer Henry Hudson who first sailed its Scenic course in 1609 since then the great Waterway has become the major Inland artery west of the Great Lakes and North to Canada foreign ER has passed the Statue of Liberty as they enter the river on powerful ships one is the superliner Queen Elizabeth for the Hudson River where Robert Fulton's first Steamboat Clyde is now the burst of a giant International Merchant Fleet into her dark stream the 10 000 ships a year that have helped build beside the Hudson the greatest commercial center on Earth Curry boat still shuttle between New Jersey and New York but they are a slowly Vanishing part of the Hudson scene passing Grant's Tomb on New York's resplendent Riverside Drive a Northbound motorist crosses the Hudson via the George Washington Bridge it's 600 foot Towers dwarf little Jeffrey's hook light which once guided Hudson shipping upriver the bustling city is Left Behind a sheer wall of rock the Palisades Rises on the West Bank part of the gorge carved in some dim period when the river was a roaring glacial Channel and here the Hudson begins to cast its spell of gentle scenery slopes and sky this said Henry Hudson's logbook is a pleasant land to see across the Hudson During the Revolution Americans stretched an iron chain its links remain at the United States Military Academy near the spot where the chain barred British ships a far friendlier span now stretches across the Hudson below West Point the Bear Mountain Bridge is perched in the Catskill Mountains hugging the level Shore route below is the railroad river flows on tranquil yet Majestic as it reaches its widest point where another Bridge takes the New Jersey Thruway across the spot the Dutch called Tappan Zee the Dutch are still remembered by the names along the Hudson Shore Yonkers and Rensselaer blocky kill Catskill and Stuyvesant this is the river that has everything Beauty combined with utility ever present ever flowing across the Milestones of the century thank you
